The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, has advised students participating in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to uphold honesty and avoid any form of malpractice during the exam period, which spans from April 24 to June 20.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Alli-Balogun stressed the importance of maintaining integrity, stating that the government has provided students with sufficient learning resources and support systems. He urged them to stay focused, resist peer pressure, and approach the examinations with a clear and disciplined mindset to safeguard their future.
Highlighting some of the state’s educational interventions, the commissioner pointed to the Eko Learners’ Support Programme, which offers 320 televised and online lessons across 10 core subjects, including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Yoruba. He also noted that, as part of efforts to boost educational outcomes, school principals and vice principals are now required to engage in teaching six to eight periods weekly.
Alli-Balogun affirmed that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains committed to academic excellence and is implementing deliberate measures to enhance student performance in national exams. He added that all learning content is fully aligned with the Lagos State curriculum and the syllabuses for both WASSCE and the National Examination Council (NECO) exams, which begin on June 16.
