The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, has announced the commencement of the 21st edition of the Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition.
According to the Commissioner, the 2025 edition is set to be outstanding, in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritises educational excellence and youth development.
Alli-Balogun noted that the Ministry has taken deliberate steps to ensure that this year’s Spelling Bee distinguishes itself, reflecting Lagos State’s continued commitment to promoting literacy and enriching learning opportunities for young people.
“We are proud to promote literacy and language development among our young people, and this competition reflects our dedication to nurturing these essential skills,” he said.
He explained that the competition is being organised by the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) in partnership with the New Era Foundation.
This year’s event will hold at the Eko FM Multi-Purpose Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja—on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, for the Junior Category (Primary School Students), and on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, for the Senior Category (Secondary School Students).
Alli-Balogun reaffirmed that the Spelling Bee “remains one of the most anticipated academic competitions in the State—an inspiring platform that enables students to showcase their spelling abilities, build confidence, and demonstrate their intellectual depth.”
