The Kwara State Government on Monday announced the release of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, reporting better outcomes in core subjects and a rise in student enrolment, especially among girls.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, said in a statement from Ilorin that the results reflect the impact of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration’s investments in the education sector.
According to him, BECE enrolment grew by 27 per cent between 2019 and 2025, increasing from 45,761 to 57,787 candidates. Female participation also improved slightly, rising from 47.89 per cent in 2019 to 48.33 per cent in 2025.
“In the last six years, the BECE has recorded consistent growth and steady progress in equity,” Olohungbebe stated. “This year alone, enrolment rose from 56,508 in 2024 to 57,787 in 2025, with attendance improving across most subjects.”
He added that pass rates climbed in key areas, including Mathematics (+2.23 percentage points), English (+2.94 pp), National Values (+4.51 pp), History (+3.72 pp), and Pre-Vocational Studies (+3.33 pp). Average scores also went up, showing broader progress beyond the pass mark.
“These results show that not only are more students taking the exam, but more of them are also succeeding. The trend is clearly positive,” the commissioner noted.
Olohungbebe advised principals, parents, and guardians to collect results from the Ministry of Education starting Thursday, September 11, 2025, at no cost.
He cautioned principals against extorting students, stressing that “the collection of results and scratch cards for checking remains entirely free.”
