Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has approved the allocation of ₦20 billion in the forthcoming supplementary budget to expand the ongoing rehabilitation and development of public school infrastructure across the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, who stated that the new funding will significantly boost the administration’s education sector reforms, which began in 2020 after Kwara re-established its partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

“His Excellency has directed that a fresh ₦20 billion be set aside specifically for upgrading school infrastructure,” Dr. Olohungbebe said. “Planning has commenced, designs are being drawn up , and full implementation will begin once the supplementary budget is passed.”

He clarified that this is not an isolated initiative but a continuation of the government’s broader commitment to education. “Since 2019, we have renovated or constructed over 1,254 classrooms, in addition to several other targeted interventions.”

Dr. Olohungbebe also noted that the current administration has successfully implemented SUBEB-UBEC intervention projects dating as far back as 2014, a milestone unique to Governor Abdulrazaq’s leadership.

The upcoming phase of work, he said, will include the construction of laboratories, sanitation facilities, and other critical infrastructure in schools across various parts of the state, complementing ongoing projects by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

“Despite our substantial progress, we recognize that there are still infrastructural gaps in the education sector,” he added. “This new intervention is aimed at bridging those gaps and ensuring that our public schools are conducive for learning.”
