The Jigawa State Government, in partnership with New Globe, has launched a comprehensive training programme for 1,690 public school teachers to enhance digital teaching skills and improve education quality across the state.

The initiative, carried out under a Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and New Globe, marks a major step in reforming primary education in Jigawa. This was disclosed in a press statement released in Dutse, the state capital.

According to the statement, the training programme is being implemented under JigawaUNITE, a transformative education initiative aimed at modernising classroom practices, improving teaching standards, and boosting learning outcomes in public primary schools.

Mr. Olusanya Omojola, Acting Managing Director of JigawaUNITE, described the programme as a mission to deliver dramatic improvements in learning outcomes for all children in the state. “JigawaUNITE is powered by a global model already proven in countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, Liberia, and several Nigerian states,” he explained. “It combines teacher coaching, real-time classroom data, and tested pedagogical methods to improve foundational literacy and numeracy.”

The project is being supervised by the Ministry of Basic Education and the Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). It will equip teachers with tablets loaded with structured lesson plans and performance-tracking software to support consistent, high-quality instruction.

The first phase of the programme was recently completed in Dutse, where a 10-day Wave 1 training session was conducted for teachers and school leaders. The next waves are scheduled for Gumel and Hadejia. In total, 1,449 classroom teachers and 250 headteachers will participate in the intensive induction programme focused on effective classroom management, learner engagement, and digital teaching tools.

Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo, praised the initiative, noting that teachers are key to driving change in the education sector. “Under the leadership of His Excellency Malam Umar Namadi, we are committed to empowering our teachers as champions of change and role models for future generations,” he said.

Malam Bello Ballama, Secretary of SUBEB, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to teacher development. “JigawaUNITE is not a one-time intervention,” he said. “It is a long-term investment in our children and the future of education in Jigawa.”

He added that the initiative is expected to bring about noticeable changes in classrooms across the state, with better-equipped teachers, more engaging lessons, and more confident, motivated learners.

“This programme is more than just teacher training—it is a promise to ensure every child in Jigawa has access to quality education, led by skilled educators and supported by modern tools,” Mr. Omojola concluded.
