The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will conduct a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mop-up exercise for 96,838 candidates across the country.

In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by the JAMB Public Communications Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Board disclosed that the mop-up examination will hold on Saturday, June 28, 2025, and urged candidates to begin printing their examination notification slips from Monday, June 23.

According to the statement, the mop-up exam will cater to 5,096 spill-over candidates and those who could not undergo biometric verification during the main UTME. In addition, 91,742 candidates who were absent from the main and rescheduled UTME will be included in this special mop-up exercise.

“In total, 96,838 candidates are being rescheduled for the 2025 mop-up exercise in 183 centres nationwide, while others are on standby,” the statement read.

JAMB also announced the suspension or delisting of 113 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres over various infractions, including technical issues and involvement in malpractice during the mock and main examinations. Some of these centres are also under security investigation.

“Consequently, 113 CBT centres have been delisted or suspended across the country. Some were implicated in multiple infractions during the main or resit examinations,” the statement noted.

The Board expressed appreciation to security agencies, including the State Security Service (SSS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), for their unwavering support in investigating identity theft and examination malpractice. The ongoing nationwide probe has led to several arrests and prosecutions, including those of JAMB officials, professional exam takers, and syndicates involving school proprietors and tutorial centres.

As part of the investigation, some examination towns have been disqualified from hosting the mop-up exam. Affected candidates will be reassigned to nearby towns.

“Few candidates who fall into the deactivated examination towns would be assigned to towns closest to the delisted ones. We seek their understanding,” JAMB stated.

The Board added that the mop-up exam is another opportunity to identify impersonators, especially undergraduates who sit for UTME on behalf of others. Institutions of the apprehended students are being notified to take disciplinary action, including expulsion, for violating the matriculation oath.

According to JAMB, the mop-up will be guided by special squads of invigilators and security personnel in line with the renewed crackdown on examination malpractice declared by the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa.

“All candidates scheduled for the 8:00 a.m. session are advised to arrive at least one hour before the start of the exam,” the statement added.

JAMB urged eligible candidates to print their notification slips from June 23, 2025, in preparation for the mop-up exam holding on Saturday, June 28.
