The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has projected N23.8 billion as its internally generated revenue (IGR) target for 2026.
The proposed figure represents an increase of N4 billion compared to the 2025 target, according to Dr. Muftau Bello, a director in the Office of the Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede.
Bello presented the 2026 revenue projection alongside other budget proposals before the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND in Abuja on Wednesday.
In his presentation, he explained that out of the projected N23.8 billion IGR, N6 billion would be remitted to the Federal Government as operating surplus. He added that JAMB has proposed a total budget profile of N30.6 billion for 2026, with N23.8 billion expected from internal sources and N6 billion to be paid into the Federation Account.
Reviewing the board’s 2025 performance, Bello informed the committee that JAMB generated N18.5 billion in IGR and remitted N4 billion as operating surplus for the year.
On preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), he disclosed that the board has established 1,000 examination centres nationwide, a significant increase from the fewer than 800 centres used in 2025.
Members of the Senate Committee, chaired by Senator Muntari Dandutse, commended JAMB’s performance under Oloyede’s leadership, expressing satisfaction with the board’s financial management and operational efficiency.
However, Senator Yohanna Amos (Adamawa-North) appealed to the board to reconsider the current N3,500 UTME registration fee. In response, Bello noted that the fee was previously N5,000 but was reduced to N3,500 by the current registrar.
