The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of 85 underage candidates who successfully completed its comprehensive screening process for exceptional admission into tertiary institutions.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, explained that after a thorough evaluation, 85 candidates , all below 16 years of age as of September 2025, were deemed qualified and have been directed to proceed to their respective institutions to complete the admission process and print their official JAMB admission letters.

Dr. Benjamin described the exercise as part of JAMB’s policy on exceptional admission, which aligns with global best practices where underage cases are treated as rare exceptions rather than the norm.

He recalled that during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), a total of 2,031,133 candidates applied for admission, with 41,027 seeking consideration under the special underage category. Out of these, 599 candidates scored above the 80 per cent threshold, qualifying them for further evaluation through the verification of school certificates and post-UTME screening, a process that eventually produced 182 finalists (178+4).

“After due verification, interviews, and screening, 85 candidates were found to have met all requirements and have consequently been cleared for admission,” the statement noted.

The Board further advised any of the 182 finalist candidates who missed the final interview to submit a formal request through the JAMB Support Ticketing System under the category titled ‘2025 Underage Complaint’. Each case, Benjamin said, will be reviewed individually and decisions made strictly on merit.

Additionally, JAMB announced that candidates who scored 320 and above in the UTME but failed to upload their O-Level results — and were therefore disqualified — have been given two days (up to Wednesday, 29th October, 2025) to upload their results and notify the Board via the ticketing system.

JAMB reiterated its commitment to maintaining a credible, transparent, and inclusive admission process, while safeguarding the integrity and standards of Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
