Heirs Insurance Group has announced the commencement of the fourth edition of its annual Heirs Insurance Essay Championship, targeting Junior Secondary School students across Nigeria.
This year’s competition offers a total prize of N10.5 million to outstanding students, teachers, and schools, as part of the Group’s effort to promote insurance awareness from an early age.
According to a statement from the company, the winning student will receive a N5 million scholarship, while their school will get an N1 million education grant. The first and second runners-up will receive N2 million and N1 million scholarships respectively.
Students are required to submit original essays of no more than 500 words on the topic, “The Role of Insurance in Keeping Families Safe and Secure.” The competition is open for entries from May 27 to July 8, 2025, through the official website.
To deepen the educational impact, insurance-themed quizzes have been embedded in the application process, allowing students to engage with the concept of insurance while submitting their entries. All submissions will be assessed by a panel of academic experts, with auditing support from Deloitte & Touche to ensure transparency and fairness.
In a new development, the 2025 edition introduces the Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize (TIAP) to recognize teachers who promote insurance education in their schools and communities. The top teacher will receive a N1 million cash award, along with a N500,000 grant for their school. To qualify, teachers must carry out an insurance awareness project and provide evidence of its impact.
Speaking on the initiative, Chief Marketing Officer of Heirs Insurance Group, Ifesinachi Okpagu, said the company remains committed to using education as a tool to build financially informed communities.
“We are excited to return with an even bigger edition of the Heirs Insurance Essay Championship,” she said. “This year, we are not only empowering students and schools, but also recognizing the vital role of teachers in shaping financially-aware citizens.”
The winners of the competition will be announced at a grand finale event scheduled for August 2025.
