Education leaders, school owners, and stakeholders in the sector have convened to strategize ahead of the historic “Let There Be Teachers” Conference, set to hold on September 20, 2025, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.
The preparatory meeting, attended by members of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), the Nigeria Union of Teachers, and other education advocates, focused on school growth, sustainability, and mobilization of teachers for a Guinness World Record attempt. The initiative seeks to bring together 60,000 teachers in a single gathering, making it the largest assembly of educators in Nigeria’s history.
“This is a precursor to the main event coming up next Saturday,” said Coach Luyi Armstrong, General Secretary of NAPPS. “We are excited to witness teachers unite at this scale for the first time to share experiences, address challenges, and celebrate their roles. Every teacher is encouraged to be part of this historic moment.”
Conference convener and education advocate, Oluwaseyi Anifowose, stressed the importance of collaboration, noting that school and teacher development go hand-in-hand. “When we strengthen schools, we uplift teachers—and in doing so, we safeguard the future of education in Nigeria,” he remarked.
Echoing this, Dr. Hakeem Subair, co-founder of 1 Million Teachers (1MT), highlighted the need to prioritize teachers in nation-building. “Society must pay closer attention to educators. Teachers are at the heart of shaping character, unity, and progress,” he said.
The strategy session also featured insights from education figures including Ronke Posh Adeniyi, Rizma Butt (co-founder of 1MT), strategist Rotimi Eyitayo, innovation expert Rhoda Odigboh, and global consultant Prof. Akin Akinpelu. Discussions centered on leadership, innovation, and strategies to sustain school growth.
The “Let There Be Teachers” Conference aims to serve as a turning point for education reform in Nigeria. It will bring together policymakers, school leaders, and global partners to honor teachers, tackle learning poverty, embrace technology-driven education, and boost teacher training. By fostering collaboration across states, the event hopes to shape impactful reforms that empower educators and improve learning outcomes for millions of children.
