A new educational initiative led by NerdzFactory Company, in partnership with the United Kingdom’s Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, will train 3,150 secondary school teachers in artificial intelligence (AI) across five states in Nigeria.

The programme, titled “Experience AI,” is designed to provide foundational AI skills to educators in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Ekiti states, with the goal of reaching over 157,000 students by 2026.

At the launch event in Lagos, Ade Olowojoba, Founding Partner at NerdzFactory Company, said the programme aims to equip teachers with the tools and knowledge to inspire innovation and build confidence in integrating AI into classrooms. Olowojoba, who was represented by Motolani Folabi, the company’s Business and Operations Lead, explained that the training will adopt a blended format. Approximately 70 percent of the sessions will be delivered online through live sessions and digital learning materials, while the remaining 30 percent will involve in-person workshops to provide hands-on experience, particularly in regions with limited internet connectivity.

He noted that the training initiative would run until December 2026, aligning with Nigeria’s academic calendar. The programme will prioritize public schools in rural, low-income, and underserved communities through collaboration with state ministries of education.

“At NerdzFactory, we believe that AI education should be accessible to everyone. Partnering with the Raspberry Pi Foundation helps us advance our mission of opening digital skills pathways for Nigerian youth,” Olowojoba said.

“The Experience AI programme is more than just teaching how artificial intelligence works. It’s about instilling the confidence to dream, providing the tools to create, and fostering the vision to lead. Together with our partners, we aim to train 3,150 secondary school teachers and impact over 157,000 students nationwide. That figure represents more than statistics—it symbolizes the spark that can ignite innovation and transform communities.”

Katherine Leadbetter, Global Partnerships Manager at the Raspberry Pi Foundation, highlighted that the programme would empower teachers with the expertise and confidence needed to effectively teach AI concepts and inspire students to explore and apply the technology meaningfully.

“Experience AI is an educational initiative offering cutting-edge resources on artificial intelligence and machine learning. Co-developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, it aligns with UNESCO’s AI competency framework for students and supports educators of all experience levels in navigating an increasingly AI-driven world. Our goal is to inform and inspire the next generation of learners,” Leadbetter explained.

The programme represents a significant step toward democratizing access to emerging technologies, aiming to bridge educational gaps and prepare Nigerian students for the digital economy.
