Remi Tinubu

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has donated N100 million to support an art education initiative in Nigeria. She made the announcement on Wednesday in Abuja during a charity gala organized by spouses of heads of mission in Nigeria, aimed at supporting the Five Cowries Art Education initiative.

The Five Cowries initiative seeks to enhance learning and expand access to education in rural and underserved communities across Nigeria through arts education.

Mrs. Tinubu praised the innovation behind the program and its founder, Ms. Polly Alakija, for her dedication. She emphasized the importance of education as a foundation for national development, noting that since the start of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and through the Renewed Hope Initiative launched in 2023, there has been consistent support for education and youth empowerment.

She called on everyone to contribute to the Five Cowries initiative through donations, advocacy, or partnerships. On behalf of the Renewed Hope Initiative, she pledged N100 million to support 5,000 art exhibitions across Nigeria.

Lucrecia Downer, spouse of the Jamaican high commissioner and representative of the event organizers, said the gala aimed to help Five Cowries raise additional funds to strengthen its art programs.

The First Lady also commended the spouses of heads of mission for their active role in serving and empowering vulnerable members of society.
