The Federal Government has launched an investigation into reports that students writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination in Asaba, Delta State, were forced to take the exam at night using torchlight.

The move follows a viral video showing candidates at Unity Secondary School, Asaba, sitting for the examination in poor lighting conditions, sparking widespread criticism on social media.

Minister of State for Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, ordered the probe, describing the situation as completely unacceptable. A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, confirmed that the Ministry is collaborating with the Delta State Government and the West African Examinations Council to determine what went wrong.

The Ministry expressed serious concern over the incident and assured the public that steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence. It also reaffirmed its commitment to providing adequate infrastructure and a conducive learning environment for students across the country, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for education.
