The Federal Government has set aside N3 billion for the newly launched Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), a scheme designed to support innovative undergraduate students with equity-free grants of up to N50 million.
Within just three weeks of opening the portal, the initiative has already attracted strong interest, with about 18,000 applications received so far. At the official launch held on Monday in Abuja, the government confirmed that out of the 17,914 entries submitted, 1,000 students have completed their applications.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, explained that the programme is open to full-time students from 300 Level and above across all tertiary institutions — federal, state, and private. The portal, which opened on November 17, 2025, will remain accessible until January 23, 2026, and is targeted at students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences (STEMM).
Dr. Alausa added that postgraduate students at the Masters and PhD levels are also eligible to apply.
