The federal government has inaugurated a joint implementation committee of the National Conference on Digital Literacy and Emerging Skills to oversee the execution of the conference’s resolutions and outcomes.
The committee was inaugurated yesterday in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, the SGF explained that the initiative is a collaboration between the SGF’s office and Clergywealth Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Limited (CWMSCL).
Dr. Kana emphasized that the initiative aligns with the federal government’s digital transformation agenda and the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, which aims to achieve at least 95 percent digital literacy by 2030. He will serve as the chairman of the committee.
The committee’s membership includes representatives from the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Information and National Orientation; and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Other members are drawn from the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Federal Ministry of Youth Development, CWMSCL, the Office of the SGF (ICT Head as Secretary), NGOs, and consultants with CWMSCL, among others.
The committee’s terms of reference include planning and organizing the National Digital Literacy Conference scheduled for January 28–29, 2026, as well as overseeing the training and certification of 1 million Nigerians in digital literacy and emerging skills.
Speaking earlier, Deputy Director of CWMSCL, Rosemary Ojochenemi Oshikoya, highlighted that the cooperative provides sustainable financial solutions, healthcare, and housing support for the clergy. She added that CWMSCL also offers digital skills training for 1 million youths with certification and supports community development through initiatives such as the Clergywealth Commodity Club (CCC), Clergywealth Artisan Training School (CATS), and Clergywealth Microcredit Facility (CMF).
