The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to the development and deployment of Information Technology (IT) as a tool to enhance education across Nigeria.

Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, gave this assurance at the 2025 Information Technology Professional Assembly held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja. Speaking through Mr. Olie Frank, Deputy Director of Science Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, the Minister emphasized the government’s recognition of IT as a critical pillar for expanding access to quality education at all levels in the 21st century.

The annual IT Professionals’ Assembly, organized by the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) (CPN), gathered industry experts, government officials, lawmakers, civil society actors, and academia to deliberate on key issues shaping Nigeria’s IT landscape.

Dr. Alausa described Information Technology as a flagship sector that drives all other professions, noting that it plays a vital role in Nigeria’s quest for sustainable development. He also raised concerns about the prevalence of quackery in the IT space and called on CPN to enforce strict regulations. He stressed that all individuals and corporate bodies practicing IT in Nigeria must be registered with the Council to ensure proper monitoring and uphold the integrity of the profession.

“The Federal Ministry of Education is conscious of your efforts in enforcing the Act that established CPN. The global best practice is for professionals to regulate their sectors effectively to keep out quacks and preserve standards,” he said.

In his remarks, the President and Chairman of the Council of CPN, Kole Jagun, highlighted the significance of the annual assembly, which he said has become a premier platform for IT professionals within Nigeria and in the Diaspora to engage, network, and chart the future of the industry.

Jagun noted that the 19th edition of the assembly was focused on securing Nigeria’s cyberspace against threats such as cyberattacks, online fraud, fake news, and hate speech. He added that the event also aimed at strengthening global partnerships and promoting local innovations in technology.

“This gathering is more than just a meeting; it is an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and inspire one another,” he stated. “The fast-paced nature of technology demands that we remain proactive through continuous learning, sharing of ideas, and strong professional alliances.”
