Federal Government Alerts Public to Fake NELFUND Student Loan Website

Nigerian students benefited from NELFund

The federal government has alerted Nigerians to the circulation of a fraudulent student loan application portal falsely linked to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

In an official advisory posted on Tuesday via NELFUND’s verified X (formerly Twitter) account, the agency urged students, parents, and guardians to be vigilant and avoid the fake website. It emphasized that the only legitimate portal for applying for the interest-free student loan is http://nelf.gov.ng.

The statement read: “Please be advised: A fake NELFUND student loan portal is being circulated online. To all students, parents, and guardians, the ONLY official website for interest-FREE NELFUND applications is: http://nelf.gov.ng. Don’t fall for scams. Avoid clicking on suspicious links. If in doubt, verify before you act.”

This warning follows growing interest in the government’s student loan scheme, which was recently launched to provide financial aid to students in tertiary institutions across the country.
