The Kano State Commissioner of Education, Alhaji (Dr) Ali Haruna Makoda, has underscored the crucial role of teachers in building a robust education system, describing them as the backbone of educational development. He insisted that no society can attain quality education without first investing in producing high-quality teachers.
Speaking at the opening of a Stakeholders’ Sensitisation Meeting on the National Education Quality Assurance Policy held at the conference hall of Kano Capital School, Dr Makoda said the current administration remains deeply committed to transforming the state’s education sector through rigorous quality assurance measures.
He explained that the meeting was convened to educate key stakeholders on the significance of quality assurance in delivering effective teaching and learning across basic and post-basic education levels. According to him, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has launched numerous initiatives aimed at revitalising education and maintaining high standards.
“This meeting couldn’t have come at a better time,” Dr Makoda remarked. “Our administration prioritises quality teachers and quality education, and we’re determined to ensure Kano’s schools meet national standards.”
Dr Makoda highlighted Governor Yusuf’s commitment to education, pointing out significant budgetary allocations as evidence of the government’s focus on the sector. He recalled that in 2024, the administration allocated 29.75% of the state budget to education, which was increased to 31.5% in 2025.
“These allocations demonstrate the governor’s unwavering dedication to restoring the lost glory of our education sector,” he added.
The commissioner also revealed that additional programmes are in the pipeline to further develop teachers’ skills, especially in adopting modern teaching methods to improve classroom delivery.
Dr Makoda acknowledged the Federal Education Quality Assurance Service for its support in organising the sensitisation programme and encouraged participants to actively engage and absorb valuable insights during the sessions. He reiterated that education remains the foundation of any meaningful societal progress.
In a statement released by the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, it was noted that the participants were selected from various parastatals under the Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammed, expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for his sustained efforts to rejuvenate the state’s education sector.
During the meeting, Alhaji Bello Rabeh, Director of the Federal Education Quality Assurance Service, delivered a paper titled “General Overview of the National Education Quality Assurance Policy and its Strategy Priority.” Additional presentations were made by Alhaji Saidu Mohammed and Abdu Danladi Mohammed, both from the Federal Education Quality Assurance Department, focusing on stakeholders’ roles and capacity-building initiatives for state-level quality assurance.
Participants praised the event for expanding their understanding of quality assurance practices and reaffirmed their readiness to implement the knowledge gained to enhance education standards in Kano State.
