The Chief Executive Officer of Blink Tech Solutions, Blessing Winifred, has underscored the importance of exposing students to digital literacy and cybersecurity education from an early age, particularly in schools often excluded from high-tech programmes.

Winifred made the call during a cybersecurity and tech awareness workshop held at Guzmovic College, Ijanikin, Lagos State. The event, themed “Cybersecurity Careers: How to Become a Cyber-Hero in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” brought together students, educators, and tech professionals. It featured sessions on digital safety, ethical hacking, and career pathways in cybersecurity.

The workshop served as a platform for students to explore essential cyber topics, equipping them for a world where digital literacy and personal security are increasingly vital. Winifred encouraged students to take advantage of online resources, seek mentorship, and engage in self-paced learning to kickstart their journey in cybersecurity. She also revealed plans to expand the initiative to other schools and regions, ensuring equal access to cybersecurity education for students regardless of background.

“We are raising cyber heroes—not just users of technology, but protectors, thinkers, and creators. Every student has the potential to lead in the age of AI. They just need the right guidance and opportunity,” she said. “Our firm aims to bridge the digital divide by ensuring that students from underserved communities have access to cutting-edge technology and resources. By fostering a culture of innovation and inclusion, we are poised to shape a future where every student can thrive in the digital economy.”

The event also emphasized the need for Nigerian secondary schools to integrate cybersecurity awareness and digital skills into their curricula to equip young learners with the tools to stay safe, think critically, and prepare for careers in the tech industry.

The Director of Guzmovic College, Mr. Ajayi Oluwagbenga, whose school was declared winner of the “Future Cyber Heroes” challenge at the event, praised Blink Tech Solutions for its commitment to youth empowerment through technology.

“This is a landmark event for our school. We are proud to collaborate with Blink Tech Solutions to give our students firsthand exposure to real-world digital skills. The future belongs to those who are tech-ready, and this event has planted that seed,” he said.

The school’s principal, Mr. Ayoade Joseph, also expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing the workshop as an eye-opener for both students and staff. He noted that it helped demystify cybersecurity and inspired the school community to see it as an achievable and relevant career path.

Information Technology expert Paulinus Okodugha encouraged students to build strong foundational knowledge of technology, stating that the future of cybersecurity begins with understanding how networks and data systems function. He stressed that consistency and curiosity matter more than perfection in the field.

Application security specialist Bolaji Farinloye introduced students to the idea of secure coding, explaining that every app—from social media platforms to games—is a potential target. “Behind every secure app is a team of professionals thinking ahead. That could be you one day,” he said.

Cybersecurity expert from Tedbree Limited, Ifeanyi Kwentoa, highlighted the value of ethical hacking as a way to protect systems by thinking like an attacker. “Cyber heroes don’t destroy — they defend,” he told the students, encouraging them to learn how to “hack for good.”

Raheema Adetunji, a data and business analyst, explained that understanding data is key to preventing cyber threats. She urged students—especially girls—to explore the data-driven side of cybersecurity and make use of critical thinking to solve problems.

Security Operations Center analyst Oladesanmi Arigbede gave insights into the high-stakes world of real-time cyber defense and emphasized the importance of vigilance, collaboration, and swift response in protecting digital environments.

Earlier in the event, Ifeoma Naomi of Blink Tech Solutions explained that the workshop is part of a larger mission to take cybersecurity education to the grassroots. The goal, she said, is to build a generation of cyber defenders who are not only skilled but also ethically responsible.
