The Bauchi State Government has dismissed recent claims of substandard education projects as baseless and misleading.

This response came from the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Muhammad Lawal Rimin Zayan, during a one-day meeting themed “Roadmap to Equality: Tools for Transforming Girls’ Education in Bauchi”, organized by Connected Development (CODE) with support from the Malala Fund.

Dr. Rimin Zayan emphasized that the government, through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has strengthened monitoring and supervision mechanisms to ensure the effective execution of all educational projects across the state. He stated that the recent restructuring within SUBEB has significantly enhanced operations, with staff demonstrating greater dedication and accountability.

He further disclosed that strategic reforms are ongoing to place full responsibility for teacher recruitment and supervision under SUBEB, thereby promoting transparency and adherence to global best practices. The Commissioner reaffirmed the state’s unwavering commitment to delivering quality education and producing students who can compete on a national scale.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Rimin Zayan commended CODE and the Malala Fund for organizing the event, describing the initiative as timely and necessary for sustaining progress in girls’ education.

Speaking at the event, Hamza Lawal of the Malala Fund explained that the meeting was convened to present findings from a recent assessment conducted in four local government areas, focusing on the status of girls’ education in the state. He assured stakeholders that the Malala Fund remains committed to supporting efforts that enhance access to and the quality of girls’ education in Bauchi.

Also contributing, Maryam Hydelezera praised the notable improvements recorded in the education sector, despite the persistent challenge of out-of-school children. She noted that meaningful progress is being made in bridging this gap and assured that the Malala Fund would maintain its active presence in the state to further uplift the standard of education, especially for girls.
