ASUU UNIJOS Declares Strike Over Non-Payment of June Salaries

ASUU demands federal government action

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Jos has instructed its members to commence an indefinite strike following the non-payment of salaries for June 2025.

Professor Jurbe Molwus, Chairman of ASUU at the institution, issued the directive in a message circulated to union members on Thursday night.

In the message, Professor Molwus urged lecturers to withdraw from all academic activities, including teaching and statutory meetings, should their salaries remain unpaid by midnight on July 3, 2025.

“Dear Comrades, this is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June 2025 is not paid by 11:59 pm today, 3rd July 2025,” the message read.

He explained that the decision aligns with a standing resolution of ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC), which mandates branches to take action when salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month. He also referenced a congress resolution of June 4, 2025, which reaffirmed this stance.

The strike officially took effect at 12:01 am on Friday, July 4, 2025.

“Please ensure full compliance until you are communicated to resume work. The strike monitoring team of the branch will be activated to monitor compliance,” Professor Molwus added.

The development adds to ongoing tensions in the nation’s university system, where salary delays and funding challenges have frequently triggered industrial actions.
