The WAAW Foundation Scholarship is a fully funded support program for young African women currently pursuing STEM-related undergraduate degrees in universities across Africa.
Scholars receive financial support while also participating in community-based STEM advocacy, leadership development, and mentorship activities through their school’s WAAW STEM Outreach Chapter. The Foundation seeks young women with demonstrated financial need, excellent academic potential, and a strong commitment to promoting STEM in their communities.

Scholarship Details
The WAAW Foundation aims to increase the participation of African women in STEM-related fields by offering financial assistance, leadership training, and opportunities for community impact. Scholars are expected to contribute to STEM outreach programs that encourage more girls and young women to explore careers in science, engineering, technology, and mathematics.
The scholarship emphasizes academic excellence, leadership qualities, financial need, and a passion for creating positive change in local communities.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be female students of African origin, living and studying in Africa
- Be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program
- Be studying a STEM-related course at an accredited African university
- Be a first or second-year student, or a third-year student in a 5-year program
- Demonstrate financial need
- Have an excellent academic record
- Show leadership qualities, community service, and volunteering experience
- Be below 32 years of age
Required Documents
Applicants are required to submit:
- Two reference letters:
- One from a professor
- One from an academic advisor, mentor, or supervisor
- References must be emailed directly to the Foundation by the referees
Eligible Courses
Only applicants in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields will be considered.
- Pharmacy students are eligible
- Medical and Nursing students are NOT eligible
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants of this scholarship will receive:
- $500 scholarship award to support academic expenses

Payment Breakdown
- First Payment: Issued after selection and document verification
- Second Payment: Released upon completion of outreach and chapter participation requirements
Requirements for Second Payment
- Be an active member of a WAAW STEM Chapter (or start one if unavailable)
- Participate in at least 2 community STEM outreach activities
- Submit reports/documentation of outreach activities
Note: Failure to participate in outreach can result in loss of scholarship continuation.
