Scholarship Details

The University of York GREAT Scholarship is a financial support initiative aimed at helping international students pursue postgraduate education in the United Kingdom. The scholarship is offered in collaboration with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, providing funding opportunities to outstanding students across different countries.

Through this partnership, the University of York will award five scholarships to eligible international applicants who have applied for postgraduate taught programmes at the institution. The funding is designed to assist students with part of their tuition costs while studying in the UK.

The GREAT Scholarship 2026 programme, coordinated by the British Council together with 72 UK universities, enables postgraduate students from countries such as Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Ghana, Greece, Kenya, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam to gain access to world-class higher education in the United Kingdom.

At the University of York, the scholarship is available for applicants from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Kenya across most postgraduate taught courses. However, applicants from Nigeria are eligible only if they apply for one of the university’s postgraduate Law programmes.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the University of York GREAT Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of China, Indonesia, Malaysia, or Kenya.
  • Applicants from Nigeria must apply for a postgraduate Law programme to qualify.
  • Be paying tuition fees at the overseas fee rate (all fee assessments must be completed by 11 May 2026).
  • Have satisfied any language condition attached to their admission offer by 11 May 2026.
  • Have a conditional or unconditional offer to study a one-year postgraduate taught course at the University of York by 11 May 2026.
  • Not be receiving external funding that covers 100% of tuition fees (the GREAT Scholarship can be combined with partial external funding).
  • Be willing to act as an ambassador for the University of York and the British Council as part of the GREAT Scholarship scheme.
