The University of York, in partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, has opened applications for the 2025 GREAT Scholarship scheme for eligible international students.
The GREAT Scholarship 2025 provides financial support of £10,000 to selected candidates pursuing a one-year postgraduate taught degree in the United Kingdom.

Scholarship Details
The University of York GREAT Scholarship is offered to eligible international students applying for a variety of one-year postgraduate taught programs. Students from Nigeria are eligible only for specific postgraduate Law-related programs.
This scholarship scheme is a joint initiative of the British Council and the UK Government’s GREAT Britain Campaign, aimed at increasing access to UK higher education for students from selected countries.
Through this partnership, five scholarships are being made available for eligible students from China, Ghana, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, and Turkey to pursue their studies at the University of York.
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the University of York GREAT Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of China, Ghana, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, or Turkey
- Be paying fees at the overseas rate (any fee assessments must be completed by 16 May 2025)
- Have met any English language condition of their offer by 16 May 2025
- Have a conditional or unconditional offer to study a one-year postgraduate taught course at the University of York by 16 May 2025 (acceptance of offer is not required by this date)
- Students from Nigeria must have an offer to study one of the following courses:
- LLM Law
- LLM Art Law
- LLM International Corporate and Commercial Law
- LLM International Human Rights Law and Practice
- LLM Legal and Political Theory
- MA Applied Human Rights
- A GREAT scholarship may be combined with external funding as long as it does not cover 100% of tuition fees
- Successful scholars will serve as ambassadors for the University of York and the British Council under the GREAT scheme

Successful applicants of the University of York GREAT Scholarship will receive:
- £10,000 contribution towards tuition fees
