Scholarship Details
The University of Sussex has been awarded the title of University of Sanctuary, in recognition of its commitment to supporting forced migrants and welcoming them into higher education.
The Sanctuary Scholarship is one of the university’s initiatives to support students who are unable to access government student loans, allowing them to pursue their chosen Master’s degree at Sussex.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the University of Sussex Sanctuary Scholarship 2025, you must:
- Have received an offer to study a Master’s degree at the University of Sussex, starting in September 2025
- Have submitted, or be the dependent of someone who has submitted, an application to the UK Home Office for recognition as a refugee; or
- Have been granted a temporary form of leave to remain in the UK due to an asylum application (e.g. limited leave to remain, humanitarian protection) and be ineligible for Student Finance England; or
- Be a partner or child of an asylum seeker, or an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child
- Have a household income below £35,000
- Be unable to access UK government student financial support due to immigration status
