Scholarship Details
The University of Pretoria LLM Scholarship is a one-year intensive programme where 25–30 exceptional individuals spend six months in Pretoria and six months at one of the 12 partner universities across Africa.
Graduates of the programme become part of the HRDA Alumni Association, comprising over 500 members who are actively engaged in human rights work across local, national, and international levels, including organizations such as the African Union and the United Nations.
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the University of Pretoria LLM Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be citizens of any African country
- Be invited to apply for admission to study for the Master’s Degree (LLM/MPhil) in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria
- Hold a first degree in Law (LLB, licence en droit or licenciatura em direito), or an Honours degree relevant to human rights and democratisation
- Demonstrate a professional, academic, and personal interest and commitment to human rights and democratisation in Africa
- Show potential to apply the qualification to their future career in Africa (multiplier effect)
- Support geographic and gender representation across Africa
- Represent vulnerable communities (e.g., persons with disabilities, indigenous communities, LGBTI persons)
