Scholarship Details

The University of Lausanne UNIL Masters Scholarship is awarded annually to a limited number of international students who have graduated from foreign institutions and demonstrated excellent academic achievement. The scholarship covers the full statutory duration of the Master’s program, which is either one and a half or two years, depending on the field of study.

Students who receive the scholarship are exempt from fixed registration fees, except for a CHF 80.00 administrative fee payable each semester. It is important to note, however, that the monthly stipend may not be sufficient to cover all living expenses in Switzerland, and recipients are advised to plan accordingly.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the 2026 UNIL Masters Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Hold a foreign university degree that is deemed equivalent to a bachelor’s degree at UNIL before the start of the Master’s program
  • Have achieved particularly excellent academic results during their undergraduate studies
  • Possess a minimum language proficiency level of B2 in French or C1 in English, depending on the language of instruction for the selected Master’s program
  • Not have previously been enrolled at UNIL
  • Pay a non-refundable application fee of CHF 200.00
  • Understand that withdrawing from the program will result in the cancellation of the scholarship

Scholarship Benefits

Successful applicants of the UNIL Masters Scholarship will receive:

  • A monthly allowance of CHF 1,600, paid from 15 September to 15 July (10 months per year)
  • The award covers the full duration of the Master’s program, except in cases of final failure after the first academic year
  • Exemption from fixed course registration fees, with the exception of CHF 80.00 per semester

Selection Timeline

  • January–February: Eligible applications forwarded to the respective faculties
  • February–March: Rejection notifications from faculties for non-eligible candidates
  • March: Final selection by the Masters Scholarship Board
  • Early April: Successful candidates are notified of the board’s decision
    Note: Scholarship decisions are final and cannot be appealed
