The University of Hong Kong Summer Research Programme 2026 is designed to provide talented undergraduate and Master’s students with advanced research training in preparation for future postgraduate studies. Participants will be matched with eminent HKU professors who will offer one-to-one supervision, guiding students through the planning and execution of an independent research project aligned with their academic interests.
The Programme Office facilitates mentor matching based on research focus and academic goals, ensuring a productive research experience. In addition to hands-on research, participants will attend lectures, seminars, and research-focused activities aimed at strengthening academic writing, critical thinking, and research methodology skills. The programme also emphasizes professional development, networking, and academic exposure through interactions with faculty members and fellow researchers from around the world.
High-performing participants may be eligible for performance-based prizes and may also be considered for a conditional offer of the HKU Presidential PhD Scholarship. The programme begins with an opening session and concludes with research presentations and a closing ceremony, after which participants return home with valuable research experience, global exposure, and strong academic connections.
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the University of Hong Kong Summer Research Programme 2026, applicants must:
- Be outstanding undergraduate students currently in their 3rd or 4th year, or exceptional Master’s degree students from recognised institutions
- Demonstrate a strong academic background
- Show clear interest in postgraduate research studies (Master’s or PhD)
