Scholarship Details
Dr. Nicole Zampieri (Department of Biology) at the University of Central Florida is actively recruiting PhD students to join the Dendroecology and Disturbance Lab. The lab focuses on topics related to biogeography, dendroecology, ecosystem resilience, and conservation biology.
Students will also have opportunities to analyze biodiversity trends and plant community changes across Florida, and to engage in conservation, management, and policy research, including integration of Indigenous Knowledge and applied ecological science.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered, applicants must:
- Hold a degree in a relevant field
- Be interested in ecology and disturbance-maintained ecosystems, especially savannas
- Have interest in fire ecology and hurricane resilience
- Be willing to explore quantitative wood anatomy, such as resin duct formation and fire adaptation
- (Optionally) be interested in remote sensing, including lidar applications for analyzing ecosystem structure and function
