Scholarship Details

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme represents a partnership between the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) and UK universities to provide academic opportunities for talented students from developing Commonwealth nations.

The goal of the scheme is to support highly capable individuals who, due to financial limitations, would otherwise not have access to postgraduate study in the United Kingdom. Through the programme, scholars gain advanced academic training that strengthens their ability to contribute to sustainable development and national growth upon returning to their home countries.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be a Commonwealth citizen, refugee, or British Protected Person.
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
  • Be available to begin studies in the UK by September/October 2026.
  • Hold a first degree of First Class or Upper Second Class (2:1).
  • Applicants with a Lower Second Class (2:2) must possess a relevant postgraduate qualification, typically a Master’s degree.
  • If applying for a second UK Master’s, applicants must provide justification.
  • Not have studied or worked for one academic year or more in any high-income country.
  • Be unable to fund studies in the UK without the scholarship.
  • Submit an admission application to UCL for one of the eligible programmes listed below.

Scholarship Benefits

Successful applicants will receive:

  • Up to 8 scholarships are available for the 2026/27 academic year.
  • Covers:
    • Full tuition fees
    • Maintenance allowance
    • Economy air travel to and from the UK at the start and end of the programme
    • Additional discretionary allowances
  • Scholarships are generally tenable for one year.
