Scholarship Details

The African Young Women Leaders Fellowship Programme (AfYWL) is a collaborative initiative under the African Union Commission’s 1 Million Next Level Initiative.

The goal of the programme is to expand opportunities for African youth, with a strong focus on empowering women to contribute meaningfully in development spaces. Through a structured, 12-month assignment, fellows will be placed at UNDP offices either at the Headquarters, Country, or Regional level—excluding hardship locations—where they will actively participate in developmental work and gain real-world experience.

The programme is aligned with UNDP’s Renewed Strategic Offer in Africa and focuses on six key areas: natural resource governance, youth and women’s employment and empowerment, structural economic transformation, sustainable energy, climate change, and peace and security. By participating in this fellowship, young African women will not only be exposed to dynamic work environments but will also receive mentorship, leadership training, and access to a network of professionals working on transformative development goals across the continent.
