Scholarship Details
The Umeå University Scholarship is awarded annually in conjunction with the autumn semester admissions to academically exceptional students from outside the EU/EEA. The scholarship is offered in the form of a tuition fee waiver and may cover either the full or part of the tuition cost, depending on the decision of the selection committee.
The award is strictly merit-based and is targeted at students enrolled in English-taught degree programmes at Umeå University. The scholarship aims to attract global talent and support students who demonstrate strong academic performance and the potential to contribute positively to the university’s academic community.
Timeline for 2026 (Preliminary)
- January 15, 2026: Deadline to select a Umeå University programme as Priority 1 on University Admissions
- February 2, 2026: Deadline to pay the application fee on University Admissions
- February 4–9, 2026: Eligible students receive personal email invitations to register interest
- March 4, 2026 (23:59 CET): Deadline to register interest for the scholarship
- Late April 2026: Scholarship results announced via email
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the Umeå University Scholarship 2026, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland
- Have applied for a full-time Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at Umeå University
- Have completed their programme application before January 15, 2026
- Have paid the application fee by February 2, 2026
- Have selected a Umeå University programme as Priority 1 on the University Admissions website by the deadline
Important Notes:
- The Master’s Programme in Sustainability Reporting and Financial Analysis is not eligible, as it is a double-degree programme
- Applicants exempt from the application fee but required to pay tuition fees are also eligible
- Only applicants with a Umeå University programme listed as Priority 1 are eligible to register interest
- Second-year Master’s students currently studying at Umeå University may also be eligible
Scholarship Registration Process
- Eligible applicants will receive a personal email invitation with instructions on how to register interest
- The invitation will be sent to the email address used on the University Admissions portal
- Registration interest is linked strictly to the applicant’s Priority 1 programme
- If an applicant is not admitted to their Priority 1 choice, they cannot transfer scholarship interest to another programme

Selection Process
After the registration deadline, scholarship applications are reviewed by a selection committee within each faculty. Selection is based on:
- Academic merit
