The UCL Humanitarian Scholarship is specifically designed to support students who are facing severe challenges as a result of armed conflict. The scholarship provides an opportunity for individuals who are displaced or at serious risk to continue their education by enrolling in a full-time Master’s programme at UCL. Applications are open to international students from any country outside the United Kingdom.
The award is granted based on financial need and recommendations made by the UCL Humanitarian Scholarship Panel. Successful candidates will receive full tuition coverage alongside a substantial maintenance allowance to support accommodation and living costs throughout the normal duration of their programme. The scholarship also includes support for visa-related expenses and international travel, ensuring recipients can focus fully on their academic pursuits.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the UCL Humanitarian Scholarship 2026, applicants must:
- Be an international student
- Be at serious risk as a direct result of armed conflict, and/or
- Be displaced within or forced to leave their home country within the last three years due to armed conflict and have sought international protection outside the UK
- Be eligible to pay the Overseas fee rate
- Come from a lower-income background
- Not already hold a qualification at the same or higher level than the course applied for
- Hold an offer of admission for a full-time Master’s programme at UCL by the scholarship panel meeting in early June 2026
- Note that distance learning and part-time programmes are not eligible
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants for the UCL Humanitarian Scholarship 2026 will receive:
- Full tuition fee coverage
- Maintenance allowance of approximately £20,000 to cover accommodation and living costs
- Allowance for Immigration Health Surcharge and visa fees
- Funding for one return flight
- Scholarship is tenable for one year, except for programmes lasting two years
- Up to four (4) scholarships are available for the 2026/27 academic session
