The New York Times Fellowship is a yearlong developmental program designed for early-career journalists eager to grow within the industry. Established in 2019, the fellowship replaced traditional summer internships to offer a more comprehensive and impactful training experience.
Fellows work full-time across various departments including reporting, photography, graphics, design, video, audio, audience, and opinion, gaining exposure to diverse aspects of modern journalism. Participants receive hands-on newsroom experience, editorial mentorship, and career guidance from some of the most experienced journalists in the field.
Through this program, The New York Times aims to foster a diverse community of talented storytellers who are passionate about creating impactful and trustworthy journalism for a global audience.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the New York Times Fellowship, applicants must:
- Have some journalism experience and be early in their careers
- Be recent college graduates or have less than five years of paid, professional journalism experience
- Be authorized to work in the United States or the United Kingdom, depending on the chosen office location
- Applicants for the London office must have authorization to work in the United Kingdom
- Note that new work visas will not be sponsored; however, applicants with an existing or extendable visa (e.g., Optional Practical Training) may be considered
