Students may work on evaluating the effectiveness of urban tree planting programs following disaster events, studying how the loss of urban forests impacts ecosystem services, or assessing the role of trees in improving thermal comfort within highly walkable communities. All projects are grounded in sustainability science and designed to analyze the interactions between social and natural systems using either qualitative or quantitative research methods.
Eligibility Criteria

- Hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in environmental science, biology, geology, or other related science, engineering, or social science fields

- Have completed at least one year of biology, one semester of physical geology, one year of chemistry, and one semester of calculus or introductory statistics
