The Swansea University International Excellence Scholarship was developed to offer applicants the opportunity to benefit from the world-class research facilities and academic excellence offered by Swansea University.
The program is strategically designed to support outstanding international PhD and Professional Doctorate applicants, enabling them to study at the same tuition fee rate as UK home students while contributing to global research impact.
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for The Swansea University International Excellence Scholarship, applicants must:
Criteria for PhD or Professional Doctorate program:
- Be applying for an eligible PhD or Professional Doctorate program at Swansea University
- Have achieved or expect to achieve a First Class or 2:1 UK undergraduate degree (or international equivalent), or Distinction in a UK Master’s degree (or international equivalent)
- Be classed as an international student for tuition fee purposes
- Demonstrate excellence beyond academic qualifications in their application (including prizes, outreach, or teaching experience)
- Not be currently enrolled, returning, or transferring PhD/Professional Doctorate students
- Not be applying for Master’s level courses
- Not be fully funded by a third party
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants of The Swansea University International Excellence Scholarship will receive:
- Tuition fee reduction covering the difference between the International and UK tuition fee rate
- Will pay fees aligned to the UK rate per year, currently £4,786 for 2024/25, increasing annually in line with UKRI guidelines (approximately 3% annually)
- Scholarship value will be directly deducted from the tuition fees
