The African Union has opened applications for the 2025/2026 Pan African University Scholarship Programs. The PAU Scholarships are fully funded postgraduate opportunities covering tuition, accommodation, living stipends, research costs, books, and travel for all selected candidates.
The Pan African University is a premier continental network established to provide high-quality postgraduate training aimed at producing a prosperous, integrated, and peaceful Africa. Talented, motivated, and visionary applicants from African countries and the African Diaspora are invited to apply for Masters or PhD studies across four PAU institutes.

Scholarship Details
The Pan African University was established by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union as a flagship initiative to support Africa’s development through advanced training, research, and innovation. The scholarship targets young Africans with strong academic potential, motivation, and leadership qualities who aspire to become academics, professionals, innovators, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders.
Successful candidates will be hosted at one of the four PAU institutes:
- Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI) – Kenya
- Pan African University Institute for Life and Earth Sciences (PAULESI) – Nigeria
- Pan African University Institute for Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences (PAUGHSS) – Cameroon
- Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES) – Algeria
Eligibility Criteria
For PAU Masters Scholarship Qualification
Applicants must:
- Be a maximum of 25 years (male) or 28 years (female)
- Hold an undergraduate degree with at least Second Class Upper or equivalent in a relevant field
- Submit certified copies of university and high school certificates and transcripts
- Provide a passport or national ID card
- Submit a clear passport-sized photograph (2cm x 2cm)
- Provide a detailed CV
- Provide one recommendation letter from a former university lecturer
- Provide names and contact details (email and WhatsApp) of three university lecturers as referees (mandatory)
For PAU PhD Scholarship Qualification
Applicants must:
- Be a maximum of 28 years (male) or 30 years (female)
- Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field from PAU or any internationally recognized university
- Submit certified copies of certificates and transcripts
- Provide a passport or national ID card
- Submit a clear passport-sized photograph (2cm x 2cm)
- Provide a detailed CV
- Provide two recommendation letters from Professors
- Submit a 3–4 page Research Concept Note (title, research questions, objectives, significance, etc.)
- Provide names and contact details (email and WhatsApp) of three university lecturers as referees (mandatory)
