Scholarship Details

The Oregon State University Graduate Scholarship is currently seeking an outstanding PhD student to work on developing spatially explicit decision models for the conservation of at-risk species on lands managed by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The selected scholar will collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team to design decision-support tools that combine species distribution modeling, population dynamics, multi-criteria decision analysis, and cost-effectiveness optimization.

As part of the project, the scholar will work closely with DoD scientists, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologists, and installation managers to translate complex quantitative models into practical conservation strategies. These strategies will help balance military training needs, land management, and biodiversity protection. The research will contribute directly to large-scale conservation investments and species recovery initiatives, influencing how resources are allocated for environmental protection.
