Scholarship Details

The Nordic Scholarship Program 2026, hosted by the Nordic Africa Institute, aims to strengthen research capacity in Africa-related studies while fostering collaboration between Nordic and African research communities. The program is open to students and researchers affiliated with universities or research institutions in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland.

Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to spend one month at the Institute in Uppsala, Sweden. During this period, scholars will have access to academic resources, shared office facilities, and networking opportunities, enabling them to advance their Africa-oriented studies or research projects.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Nordic Scholarship Program 2026, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as a Master’s student, PhD candidate, or Postdoctoral researcher in the social sciences or humanities.
  • Be affiliated with a university or research institution in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland.
  • Be engaged in Africa-oriented studies or research.
  • Citizenship is not a barrier; applicants from all nationalities may apply.

Scholarship Benefits

Recipients of the Nordic Africa Institute Scholarship will receive:

  • Travel coverage for the most affordable fare from their residential address (within Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland) to Uppsala and return.
  • Free accommodation in centrally located housing in Uppsala.
  • A subsistence allowance of SEK 400 per day (approx. $1,280 per month).
  • Access to a workspace with a desk and computer in a shared office at the Institute.
  • Free photocopying (up to 1,000 copies).
