The MINDS Scholarship Programme for Leadership Development in Africa was launched in 2017 to bring to life the vision of developing young African leaders with a continental mindset, leaders capable of fostering greater unity, collaboration, and progress across Africa.

The program enables African students to study in an African country other than their own, promoting cultural exchange, diversity, and cross-border understanding.

Scholarship Details

The MINDS Scholarship Programme provides full or partial funding for Africans who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in another African country. Through carefully designed leadership development activities, the program nurtures leaders with a Pan-African perspective, committed to building stronger cooperation between nations.

The scholarships apply to full-time, one- or two-year Honours or Master’s degree programs at one of the MINDS preferred institutions (listed below). MINDS does not specify the course of study, allowing applicants to choose a program that aligns with their personal and professional goals.

The scholarship covers:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation and meals
  • One return ticket for the duration of studies
  • A fixed living stipend

Individuals with a Pan-African outlook, strong leadership potential, and an excellent academic record who wish to study in another African country are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the MINDS Scholarship Programme, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of an African country, residing in any African nation.
  • Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institutions outside their country of citizenship or residence.
  • Have obtained at least 70% in each subject/course in the last two completed years of study.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities or potential, as outlined in the application form.
  • Submit a complete online application with all required supporting documents.

  • Certified academic transcripts/results slips of the last two years of study
  • Official acceptance letter from the university (addressed to the applicant, stating the degree, commencement year, and duration of the course)
  • Valid study permit or visa, or proof of application (optional)
  • Detailed CV or Resume (maximum of 4 pages)
  • Two reference letters (maximum of 3 pages each) addressing the applicant’s integrity, leadership potential, and commitment to Africa’s development
