Program Details

The International Monetary Fund Internship Program (FIP) offers a unique opportunity for outstanding graduate students to gain hands-on experience in global economics and financial policy. Interns work under the supervision of an experienced IMF staff member to conduct research and contribute to the institution’s mission of promoting global monetary cooperation, financial stability, international trade, high employment, and sustainable economic growth.

Each year, about 50 students from around the world are selected to join the IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C. for 10 to 12 weeks between June and October.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the IMF Internship Program, candidates must:

  • Be within one to two years of completing a PhD in macroeconomics or a related field.
  • Maintain student status at the time of the internship (must continue PhD studies after the internship).
  • Be below 32 years of age at the start of the internship.
  • Have an excellent command of English, both written and oral.
  • Possess strong analytical, quantitative, and computer skills.
