Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Indian Government ICCR Scholarship, applicants must:
- For doctoral or post-doctoral programmes, submit a synopsis of the proposed research area
- Applicants for performing arts programmes should attach video or audio recordings of their performances (where available)
- Demonstrate adequate proficiency in the English language
- Submit applications only through the designated online portal (applications sent directly to ICCR or through local Embassies/High Commissions in New Delhi will not be accepted)
- Priority will be given to candidates who have not previously studied in India
- Note that applications for MBBS/MD, Dentistry, or Nursing programmes will not be accepted
- Meet the eligibility requirements of the chosen university or institution (as institutions operate independently and have their own criteria)
- Understand that university acceptance does not automatically guarantee admission; the scholarship is awarded only after ICCR confirms admission
Additional Important Conditions:
- Students must obtain the appropriate student visa from the Indian Embassy/High Commission before travelling
- Scholars arriving without the proper visa whose admission does not materialise may be deported
- Scholars should obtain a full briefing from the Indian Diplomatic Mission in their home country before departure
- Travel schedules must be communicated in advance to enable reception arrangements
- Students are advised to carry personal funds for incidental expenses upon arrival
- All original academic documents must be presented upon arrival for verification at the admitting institution
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive:
Monthly Living Allowance (Stipend):
- Undergraduate: 5,500 INR
- Postgraduate: 6,000 INR
- M.Phil / PhD: 7,000 INR
- Post-doctoral Fellow: 7,500 INR
House Rent Allowance (Per Month):
- Grade 1 Cities: 5,000 INR
- Other Cities: 4,500 INR
Contingent Grant (Per Annum):
- Undergraduate: 5,000 INR
- Postgraduate: 7,000 INR
- M.Phil / PhD / M.Tech / ME: 12,500 INR
- Postdoctoral Studies: 15,500 INR
Tuition and Compulsory Fees:
- Covered as per actual costs (excluding refundable amounts)
Thesis/Dissertation/Project Expenses (One-time Grant):
- PhD Scholars: 10,000 INR
- BBA/BCA/MBA/MCA/M.Tech and similar programmes requiring project submission: 7,000 INR
Medical Benefits:
- Scholars are required to seek treatment at university medical centres or nearest government hospitals
- Bills are settled according to AMA/CGHS norms
