The Institute of International Education (IIE), in collaboration with Sony Music Group, has opened applications for the 2025 IIE-Sony Music Group Global Scholars Program for interested and eligible students worldwide.

The IIE-Sony Music Group Global Scholars Program offers financial awards of up to $20,000 to support access to undergraduate education at a variety of top institutions specializing in music and music business programs around the globe.

Applications are currently open for the 2025 IIE-Sony Music Group Global Scholars Program.

Sony Music Group, in partnership with the Institute of International Education (IIE), is launching this initiative to empower the next generation of diverse talent aiming for careers in the music industry.

This scholarship aims to improve access to higher education in music and music business studies at leading institutions worldwide, supporting students as they pursue academic and professional pathways in the global music landscape.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the IIE-Sony Music Group Global Scholars Program, applicants must:

  • Plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited college or university in a music or music business-related field for the 2025-2026 academic year
  • Hold a minimum U.S.-equivalent GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Demonstrate academic potential and commitment to succeed in a college or university music program
  • Show evidence of financial need
  • Not be required to show proof of admission at the time of application; however, if selected, they must provide proof of full-time enrollment before scholarship funds are disbursed

Scholarship Benefits

Successful candidates for the Sony Music Group Global Scholars Program will receive:

  • Financial support ranging from USD 3,000 to USD 20,000 per academic year to help cover required tuition and mandatory fees for completing their degree programs
  • Funding amounts that may vary based on the country, type of institution (e.g., public or private), and the student’s demonstrated financial need
  • Additional opportunities provided by Sony Music Group for professional development, such as unpaid internships or mentorship experiences
  • Access to enrichment programs, including structured events and webinars, connecting scholars with industry experts to build an international network of future music professionals

Note: Scholarships are designed to supplement, not cover, all educational expenses. Recipients will be responsible for covering any remaining costs, including tuition balances, living expenses, transportation, books, and supplies.

Duration of Scholarships

  • Scholarships may be renewed for up to three additional years or until completion of the undergraduate degree, whichever comes first
  • Renewal is contingent upon maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA (U.S. equivalent) on a 4.0 scale, full-time enrollment in an eligible program, and the continuation of the scholarship program by Sony Music Group
  • Awards are strictly for undergraduate study

Required Documents

Applicants must be prepared to submit the following documents:

  • Completed online application form
  • Personal statement of up to 3,500 characters
  • Estimated tuition and mandatory fees for the 2025-2026 academic year
  • Two letters of recommendation from non-family members familiar with the applicant’s abilities (e.g., teachers, professors, supervisors, advisors, etc.)
  • High school transcript or grade report (for applicants from the UK or Commonwealth countries, A level, O level, GCSE, or BTEC results are also accepted)

Only applications submitted in full by the deadline will be considered. Any falsified or plagiarized information will result in automatic disqualification.
