The Hansen Leadership Institute (HLI) is a fully funded international leadership and peacebuilding fellowship held in San Diego, California, USA. The program brings together emerging global leaders committed to promoting peace, diplomacy, dialogue, and cross-cultural understanding.
Each year, outstanding undergraduate and graduate students, along with early-career professionals from around the world, are selected to participate in this 3-week intensive summer program, where they engage in leadership development, conflict resolution training, and international collaboration.

Fellowship Details
The Hansen Leadership Institute aims to build a global network of young leaders dedicated to peacebuilding and conflict resolution. The fellowship provides multidisciplinary training in diplomacy, leadership ethics, negotiation, international cooperation, and community development.
Participants, known as Hansen Fellows, take part in seminars, field visits, cultural experiences, and collaborative team projects that enhance their ability to influence positive change locally and globally.
Eligibility Criteria
For International Applicants:
- Must be an undergraduate (final year) student, graduate student, or recent graduate
- Must be 20–25 years old at the start of the program
- Must demonstrate leadership experience in community, academic, or professional settings
- Must have strong written and spoken English communication skills
- Preferably have not previously visited the United States (not mandatory)
- Must possess a valid international passport by the application deadline
For U.S. Applicants:
- Must be a U.S. citizen aged 20–25 years
- Must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a U.S. college or university
- Must demonstrate leadership and community involvement
