The Department of Computer Science, University of Lagos, through its Nigeria AI Lab (NAIL), invites qualified applicants to apply for two fully funded PhD positions as part of its groundbreaking AI for Education project. This initiative, supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), is focused on developing AI-powered personalized learning assistants tailored for low-connectivity and underserved educational settings in sub-Saharan Africa.
The project seeks to empower future researchers to build inclusive, impactful technologies for education and expand the frontiers of artificial intelligence for development (AI4D). Successful candidates will work closely with a vibrant community of mentors, researchers, and policy stakeholders.
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the PhD opportunity, applicants must:
- Be passionate about artificial intelligence, education, and social impact
- Hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Demonstrate strong interest or experience in AI/ML, NLP, or Educational Technology
