The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarship supports students across all academic disciplines who are enrolled at public or state-recognized universities, universities of applied sciences, and polytechnic institutions in Germany. The programme is open to students from the Global South, including Africa, Asia, and Latin America, as well as post-Soviet, Eastern, and South-Eastern European countries.
Scholars receive a monthly stipend of up to €1,200, full coverage for health insurance, and an additional monthly allowance for scholars with children. The scholarship is designed not only to provide financial support but also to encourage socio-political engagement and academic excellence.
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be citizens of developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe
- Be enrolled or admitted to a state or state-recognized higher education institution in Germany

Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarship will receive:
- €934 per month for undergraduate/basic programmes
- €1,200 per month for postgraduate (Master’s and PhD) programmes
- Health insurance cost coverage
- Family allowance (where applicable)
- Additional €276 monthly family support, if eligible
- Any personal income above €400 per month will be deducted from the scholarship amount
