Scholarship Details

The National Health Fellows Program is a government-led initiative implemented under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (SWAp Coordination Office) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. The aim of the program is to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across the country by improving existing primary healthcare centres and constructing additional centres in local government areas nationwide.

The program also introduces community-based accountability and monitoring systems to promote transparent and sustainable healthcare service delivery. Fellows will actively support health system strengthening activities while gaining professional experience, public health exposure, and community engagement skills.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the National Health Fellows Program, applicants must:

  • Be between 25 and 35 years old
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree (in health-related fields, IT, or social sciences)
  • Show interest or experience in any of the following:
    • Public health
    • Health-related NGOs or partner organizations
    • Community-centered projects showing leadership and initiative
  • Be available to participate full-time throughout the 12-month program
  • Be an indigene of the state they are applying for
  • Possess a smartphone with access to internet services (e.g., WhatsApp, Zoom)
  • Provide a recommendation from:
    • University Dean, OR
    • NYSC Place of Primary Assignment, OR
    • A respected organization confirming character and leadership
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a proactive, solution-driven mindset
