The European Commission offers two types of Blue Book Traineeships: an Administrative Traineeship and a Translation Traineeship within the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT). This traineeship program welcomes applicants from all countries, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, religion, social background, disability, or sexual orientation.
Trainees are assigned across various departments of the European Commission, its services, and agencies, with most positions located in Brussels, but also available in Luxembourg and other EU locations. Beyond professional development, the program offers a lively cultural and social life, as trainees organize diverse non-formal activities such as sports events, cultural outings, and social gatherings, each coordinated through dedicated committees.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the European Commission Blue Book Traineeship Program 2026, applicants must:
- Have completed at least a standard three-year higher education degree (minimum EQF level 6), equivalent to a full Bachelor’s cycle, and possess either the degree certificate or official confirmation from their university
- Not have any prior work experience exceeding six weeks in any EU institution, body, agency, delegation, with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), or Advocates General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (EUCJ)
- Demonstrate strong language skills:
- For the Administrative Traineeship:
- Have an excellent command of two official EU languages, with one being a working language (English, French, or German) at C1 or C2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and a second language at least at B2 level
- For non-EU nationals, only one procedural language at C1 or C2 level is required
- For the Translation Traineeship in the DGT:
- Be able to translate into their main or target language (typically their mother tongue) from two other official EU languages
- Have their main or target language as one of the official EU languages
- Use English, French, or German as the first source language
- Possess at least B2 proficiency in their second source language, which can be any other official EU language
- For the Administrative Traineeship:

Successful candidates of the European Commission Blue Book Traineeship will receive:
- A monthly living allowance of approximately €1,493.36
- Reimbursement for visa costs, medical fees related to the visa, and travel expenses
- Access to around 1,000 traineeship positions available each session
- A traineeship duration of five months
