The EU Blue Book Traineeship Program provides young graduates with the opportunity to work directly within EU institutions and gain a deeper understanding of the policymaking process within the European Union.
The program offers approximately 1,000 traineeship positions per session, with two sessions organized each year. Most trainees are placed in Brussels or Luxembourg, although some placements may also be available in other EU offices and agencies.
Participants can apply for two types of traineeships:
- Administrative Traineeships – where trainees support policy research, project management, and administrative work across various departments.
- Translation Traineeships – offered by the Directorate-General for Translation, where trainees translate official EU documents into their native language from at least two EU languages.
Throughout the traineeship, participants will develop professional communication, teamwork, and policy analysis skills, while gaining valuable experience in a diverse international workplace.

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the EU Blue Book Traineeship Program 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The program is mainly open to citizens of EU Member States, but limited opportunities are available for non-EU nationals
- Applicants must have completed at least a three-year higher education degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) before the traineeship begins
- Applicants must provide an official diploma or confirmation from their university
- Candidates must have less than 42 days of previous work experience in any EU institution, agency, or delegation
Language Requirements
- Applicants must know two EU languages
- One language must be English, French, or German at C1 or C2 level
- The second language must be another official EU language at B2 level or higher
For Non-EU Nationals
- Only one language (English, French, or German) at C1 or C2 level is required
Translation Traineeship Language Requirements
- Applicants must translate into their main language (usually their mother tongue)
- First source language: English, French, or German at C1 level or higher
- Second source language: any official EU language at B2 level or higher
