Program Details

The English Language Assistants Program assigns participants to primary or secondary schools in France, where they support teachers in enhancing students’ communication abilities, especially oral expression. Assistants also help students develop an appreciation for cultures outside France.

They may work with the whole class alongside the teacher or take small groups for focused sessions. Each assistant works 12 hours weekly and holds the status of a non-permanent state agent. The contract lasts 7 months, from October 1 to April 30.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this program, applicants must:

  • Be native speakers of the language they intend to teach in France (English, German, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Hebrew, Italian, sign language, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Czech or Turkish).
  • Have completed most of their secondary and higher education in the country where the application is made.
  • Be between 20 and 35 years old as of December 31, 2026.
  • Be enrolled in a university at the time of application.
  • Hold a qualification equivalent to the second year of a bachelor’s degree (L2) at the time of application.
  • Possess at least a B1 level of French, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  • Review the specific conditions that may apply in their country or institution of residence.
